I’m a video journalist for The New York Times covering breaking news across a wide range of global and U.S. stories. This includes pitching and producing quick-turn video packages remotely and in the field; filming footage during breaking news events; sourcing and verifying video from social media; editing videos and operating livestreams.
This work has included co-producing videos in the field and on the impact of prolonged extreme heat on people facing homelessness in Orlando, Fla., and on a migrant family’s first days in New York City after being bused to Port Authority from Texas. I’ve also gathered video as wildfire smoke and snowstorms hit the city, filmed protests and celebrations on the streets, and filed video updates for the Times’ live coverage of the New York City Marathon.
At the Times, I’ve also written stories for Climate. These have included reporting on the colliding threats of extreme heat and air pollution; a protest by hundreds of scientists against cuts to climate and weather research by the Trump administration; and the effectiveness of plastic bag bans on reducing shoreline pollution. For Climate, I also pitched and produced a multimedia story in photo, video and text on community mangrove restoration efforts in Sanibel Island, Florida as part of the area’s hurricane recovery and resilience.
Originally from Northeast Florida, I previously covered the Jacksonville area as a photojournalist and writer. I spent two years as a staff photojournalist for The St. Augustine Record and two years as a regular freelancer for The Florida Times-Union. This included covering the impact and long aftermaths of two major hurricanes, Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Irma.
I earned a master’s in journalism with a specialization in documentary filmmaking from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. I also hold a bachelor’s in communication from Jacksonville University, where I specialized in journalism and served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The Navigator.
