Family and friends of 16-year-old Dalton Kuhn light and release purple lanterns into the sky on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, while gathered on the side of State Road 312 on the one-year anniversary of his death. Purple was the teenager’s favorite color. Investigators with the St. Augustine Police Department believe that Kuhn was hit and killed by a white Chevy 2500 diesel pickup truck between the model years 2003 and 2006, while walking or skateboarding alongside the road. Kirby Jones of St. Augustine Eco Tours watches over a nearly 400 pound loggerhead sea turtle found floating, lethargic and severely emaciated, near the St. Augustine Municipal Marina on Thursday morning, February 23, 2017. The marina reported the turtle, which is estimated to be 60 to 100-years-old, to St. Augustine Eco Tours, which operates under a permit to respond to injured wildlife in the immediate area. It took five people to lift the turtle out of the water and bring it to shore. They then called the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, who arranged for the animal to be picked up and brought to SeaWorld Orlando. Shortly after the animal was found, FWC received a call to pick up a second turtle, a smaller green sea turtle, found floating in the water near The Conch House Marina.
